Why Use Meta Tags by J. Richard Kirkham

You're surfing the internet, trying to find some free or low cost information to help your project and you find two possibilities. One search engine find says index. The other search engine find says Get Your Widget Information By Clicking Here!

On which link will you click? That's one reason of several why you need meta tags in this article. Read on....

If your web page says Home, Default or the url of your website, THAT is what the search engines see and what YOUR prospective customers see when looking for your web page in the search engines.

Competition

You're not just competing against other products, you're competing against web sites as well. If your competitors' web sites don't say Home, Default, or your web page address for a title or have gibberish for a web page description, your future customer will never visit your page.

Professionalism

I want to buy from someone knowledgeable about not only his/her products, but customer care after the purchase is made as well. Like it or not your sales presentation via your web page is a big factor.

Ewww Sales

I know you want to sell your product or service, but oddly enough there are people out there who insist they should just let someone look at their web page and if they honestly like the product they'll buy it. Guess what? You do have to sell! You do it everyday anyway in small little bits whether trying to convince someone to go to the movie you wish to go to or just convincing someone to let you sleep five more minutes. In this case the salespersonship is to convince your prospective buyer to click on your link. So yes, use sales techniques. Just don't beat them over the head with it!

Remember when your parents insisted you not see that person you thought you were madly in love with as a teenager? The more they beat you over the head with this the more you wanted to do the opposite right? Same thing here, use subtle sales techniques to get your prospective buyer (in sales simply known as a prospect) to get them to click on your link in the search engines leading to your web page, which we may now call a sales page.

How About Nonhuman Visitors?

No, not aliens, search engine bots. How do you think your web page gets on most search engines? Meta tags still carry some weight with some search engines, especially the title and description tags. By placing keywords in the title of your web page. You're increasing a very important factor if your web page is every going to be found. It's call search engine optimization.

How Do I Add Meta Tags?

The easiest way to learn to add metatags is to view the source of any web page that has a title. To do this you just:

Left mouse click on View

Scroll down the menu

Left mouse click on Source

Usually right near the top is the title tag. You can copy and paste the metatags you wish to use then change the text. Notepad is the simplest program to add your meta tags to your webpage.

Conclusion

Yes you can hire someone to do your meta tags. Many people do in the beginning, but this is your business and your web site is your office. Don't you think you should learn as much about your business and where you work as possible?

Doing meta tags is just a small portion of SEO, which stands for search engine optimization, but it becomes a bigger factor when you add the fact that human beings, people now bombarded with professional marketing commercials every minute of their waking life. People who, by default, have become experts in advertising themselves o at least have developed the ability to spot an amateur Which do you wish to look like?
